![]() It sounds terrible because NR2 was never intended for anything except for very narrow filter reception on CW. ![]() FWIW, if you read the in-depth manual for this rig you will realize that you should never attempt to use NR2 on SSB. These are all very useful features that are missing on most entry level rigs such as the IC-7300 but are important features IMHO. I also appreciate that this rig is rated at 100% duty cycle for digital modes. What I really appreciate on this rig are the little extras such as the configurable DRV output which I am using to drive a RSP1A with SDRUNO as a panadaptor, the separate RX antenna jack (i use it with a LoG or Loop on the Ground on 160m/80m) and the separate key and paddle jacks for CW. I don't do a lot of SSB operating but recently purchased an Inrad DMS-629 desk mic and I am getting excellent audio reports. I use it with a Phonema Miranda external speaker and the receive audio is superb. Kenwood got the ergonomics right and performance is excellent. I bought my TS-590SG a year ago, after operating a used TS-590S for about 6 months (the TS-590s is now my cottage rig).
